My favorite book besides the Bible
Updated: Sep 7, 2023
Most people have normal hobbies like gardening, painting, photography or traveling. Even though I have some of the same hobbies like traveling, taking walks and eating out with my family at different restaurants; my most favorite hobby is obtaining wisdom. I am not talking about the kind of wisdom that is career driven or academic driven but the kind of wisdom that helps me know why I am here and the reason I was born. I have always had a good dose of common-sense and self-driven ambition in my heart but when my ability to carry "my world" and keep it all together came crashing down, I knew something was wrong. It wasn't until I got to know Jesus personally through the Word of God that I began to really learn who I was and how to manage my emotions and life. Once I got a taste of His love for me and what He had to say about me, I had a hunger in me that made me realize how malnourished and deprived my identity truly was. One of the books that God used to really help me was The Battle is the Lord's by Tony Evans. This book was a turning point for me because it helped me understand why our world is the way it is and what is really going on "behind the scenes" with all the evil we see in the world. This book helped me to know that I don't have to stay captive to the evil and that I actually have the ability in Christ to fight back. 2 Corinthians 10:4 says: "The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds." It was like the curtain was being pulled back and God was giving me a glimpse of a much greater reality than I knew of. This book gave me the ability to utilize the weapons I have in Jesus Christ and helped me to understand who the real enemy was and the different strategies he uses to deceive, distract, destroy and divide people, families, friendships and nations. If you really knew your house was going to be robbed, you would prepare yourself for it. Well, this book helps you to realize that your house (identity) and family is being robbed if you don't do something about it. We have to learn how to fortify ourselves everyday and understand that we have an enemy that is looking for any opening to come steal, kill and destroy the things that are precious to you. I don't want to magnify the evil but I don't want to down-play it either. God is greater and Jesus has already defeated the evil in this world but for a season, God has allowed believers the opportunity to participate in Christ victory. May you get a copy today and participate in the victory you have in Jesus Christ!
